More About Acupunture

What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a complex and holistic medical approach utilizing the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It is over 2000 years and remains practiced today. It is a “truth” not a fad and that is why it has endured as one of the most widely practiced meedicines in the world. Oriental medicine views illness as a stagnation or weakness of one’s life force which is called “Qi”. This unbalance can be caused by numerous factors such as trauma, poor diet, medications, stress, hereditary factors, environmental conditions, or excessive emotional issues, which may lead to pain, ill health or disease. With the insertion of fine sterile needles into specific points along pathways of energy or meridians, stagnation can be dispersed, Qi can be strengthened, and balance restored.
Are the needles safe?... Do they hurt?
What can I expect during my visit?
At Acupuncture By Alex we use only sterile, prepackaged needles which are disposed of after each treatment. Many people have a preconceived notion that the needles used for acupuncture are similar to those used for inoculations or to draw blood. We are happy to say they are completely different! An acupuncture needle is as fine as a human hair and is made of solid stainless steel. The tip is rounded so it gently pushes the skin aside and does not cut. Their insertion usually brings about a sensation of tingling or warmth. The acupuncturist is skilled and trained to insure your treatment is as comfortable as possible.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments required depends on the patient’s constitution and the complexity of the condition being treated. Acute conditions may only require a couple of visits whereas chronic cases usually require multiple treatments in order to restore health and vitality and the desired results. On your initial visit you should experience change in a positive direction. That is how quickly the body responds to acupuncture. Nutritional advice is also given as part of your visit if needed to aid the body in recovering ailments.
